Introduction

SARK 4.0.1-20 supports secure reverse SSH tunnelling to ease NAT and firewall traversal for remote engineers. It allows them to login to SARK without the need for any prior port forwarding arrangements in the customer perimeter. Operation of the feature is completely under the control of the customer and can be turned on and off as required. By default it is always off.

Usage

The feature requires the installation of an encryption file which can be obtained from Aelintra Telecom or its distributors or resellers. Without this file the feature will not be available to the site.

Once the encryption file is installed, the customer can open a reverse SSH tunnel to allow offsite support personnel to access the system. The feature can be started from any extension by dialling *44* followed by a 5 digit string provided by the support engineer. An example might be *44*45901. The auto-attendant will prompt you for the administrator system password. Enter it and press the hash/pound (#) key. If you have entered the correct password, the system will open the tunnel and respond with "Activated". The remote support engineer will now be able to access your system (provided they have the correct system passwords). Once the support session is ended, or at a time of the customer's choosing, the tunnel can be closed by dialling *44* at any phone and entering the system admin password. This will instantly end the session.
